For Immediate ReleaseMarch 18, 2010Nautica South Beach Triathlon Conquers Miami Beach for the Third Year in a RowCelebrities, athletes and locals race in South Beach to benefit St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital WHO: Determined celebrities, athletes, corporate teams, paratriathletes and professional triathletes will compete side-by-side on the shores of Miami Beach for the return of the third annual Nautica South Beach Triathlon. Participants from around the globe including the US, Canada, Mexico, UK and Germany will take on not only the Atlantic Ocean, but the streets of South Beach, to raise money for St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, specifically pediatric cancer research. Competitors expected to compete in this year’s 2010 races include co-anchor and national correspondent for NBC's “Today” Natalie Morales, Australian triathlete and five-time Ironman champion Chris “Macca” McCormack, NBC’s “Biggest Loser” winner Ali Vincent, The Bold and the Beautiful’s Heather Tom, three-time Winter X Games freestyle skiing gold medalist Sarah Burke, WPLG Local 10’s news anchor Sasha Andrade and WKMG Orlando’s news anchor Michael Garolfalo. WHAT: Over 2,400 athletes will gather on the world famous South Beach before dawn where they await the strenuous and enduring journey ahead. At 7:00 a.m., the all-new International distance race will kick off with an invigorating 1.5K ocean swim, a 40k bike over Miami Beach’s causeways, and conclude with a 10K run alongside Miami Beach’s famous Art Deco District. At 7:30 a.m. participants in the Classic distance race will hit the beach for a half-mile ocean swim, 19 mile bike and 4 mile out-and-back run. Both races will make their grand finish on the warm and smooth sands of South Beach. Both races are sold out but expect hundreds of spectators to witness the fierce competition as well as enjoy an activity filled day.
